More than 130 Rural and Community Hospitals have closed since 2010 across the United States.
One of the biggest challenges for rural healthcare providers is the complexity of the payment process. A large number of payers come from the government and are subject to significant regulations that change throughout the year. Many patients are also unsure about their payment responsibilities and when they kick in.
Opal Greenway, Consultant at Stroudwater Associates, joined the Rural Health Rising podcast to discuss the challenges of payment. She says it takes a well-oiled and well-resourced machine to stay on top of it all, which on the rural side is difficult as providers don’t always have the necessary resources.
